Location & Environment

Located on the grounds of the Moderns Rugby Club, this fishery is positioned perfectly for those who want top-tier fishing within easy reach of the city.

  • The Landmark: You can find the stretch adjacent to the famous Ferry Boat Inn.

  • The Banks: The Ferry Field offers a spacious, well-maintained bank that is as comfortable for a casual pleasure session as it is for competitive match fishing.

What to Expect on the Hook

As one of the newer stretches under Federation control, the "Ferry Field" has quickly gained a reputation for its productivity:

  • The Big Hitters: This area of the Trent is noted for its powerful Barbel and nomadic Carp, particularly near the deeper channels.

  • Silverfish Sport: The stretch holds excellent stocks of Roach, Dace, and Bream, responding well to both float and feeder tactics.

  • Predator Potential: The structural variety in this area makes it an ideal habitat for large Pike and Perch.

Access & Facilities

  • Convenience: Being situated at the Rugby Club means the walk to the bank is manageable and the access is secure.

  • Proximity: Its location near the Ferry Boat Inn makes it a great spot for an afternoon session followed by a visit to the local amenities.

  • Seasonality: Please note that as a river stretch, this water is subject to the statutory closed season (March 15th to June 15th inclusive).

Access & Directions: Wilford (The Ferry Field)

Accessing the Ferry Field is simple and highly convenient, offering one of the few stretches where you can drop your gear right at the bankside. Please follow these specific directions to ensure we maintain our partnership with the Moderns Rugby Club.

Step-by-Step Directions

  1. The Entrance: Drive into the Ferry Boat Inn car park.

  2. The Rugby Club: Continue behind the Moderns Rugby Club building.

  3. Entering the Field: Drive over the ridge on the right-hand side to enter the Ferry Field.

  4. At the Bank: You may drive around the edge of the field to drop your tackle and equipment off directly behind your chosen peg.

Parking & Site Rules

To keep the field in good condition for both anglers and the rugby club, please adhere to the following:

  • Parking: Once you have unloaded your gear, you must move your vehicle and park in the designated area close to the Penny Bridge (the Wilford Suspension Bridge).

  • Strict Regulation: Under no circumstances should vehicles be left parked directly on the field or blocking access paths.

  • No Night Fishing: This venue is strictly for daylight hours only. Night fishing is absolutely prohibited.

Angler's Etiquette

  • Match Days: Be aware of rugby club fixtures; please be respectful of other sports users sharing the area.

[!IMPORTANT] Security: Always be mindful of the gate and access points. Keeping this area secure and clean ensures the Federation maintains its "latest acquisition" for years to come.
